Last Day
Mar. 08, 2005 by Jason
Today’s my last day at work. It’s a dreary, wet day. My cube is empty. My future, uncertain. Strange, strange feeling.
We’re driving up north tomorrow in a U-Haul with a couple of pieces of furniture and some boxes. Oh, that reminds me… Let me tell you about the freak I saw at U-Haul yesterday.
This customer was standing at the counter, talking to the guy who worked there. She was totally freaking out. Picture this: heavyset ruddy lady with 4 kids running around whining - and a U-Haul guy who is calm and soft-spoken.
Employee: “Ma’am, I’ll need your credit card to make your reservation.”
Customer: “But, I told you, I don’t want to go back out to my car to get it.”
Employee: “Yes Ma’am. But, I can’t make the reservation without a credit card.”
Customer: “I don’t want to get it.”
Employee: “Okay.”
*then the guy walked over and helped me*
Customer: “Excuuuse me, I’ve been waiting here.”
Employee: “Can I help you?”
Customer: “Finish making my reservation!”
Employee: “I’m sorry Ma’am. I need a credit card to reserve a truck for you.”
Customer: “I told you before! My credit card’s in the car and I don’t want to go back out there to get it!”
Employee: “I understand. But I need a credit card to make your reservation.”
Customer: “Dammit, that’s it! Forget it!”
Then the lady stormed out, pulling her whiny kids along with her out the door. Freak.
