Reading is FUNdamental

My boy Strider tagged me. I normally hate these things, but Strider's good people. This one's about books. I hate books.

Well, hate's the wrong word. It's just that I really haven't read much lately. I'm way too lazy to commit that kind of time to non-interactive entertainment. With blogging, PS2, TiVo, etc, my time is pretty well occupied. And when I do take a minute to read, it's usually Playboy or Esquire. So, I'm shallow - whatever. I do read on occasion. I just try not to make it a habit.

Okay then, without further ado - here it is:
(1) Number of books you own:
Hundreds. Travel books, contemporary fiction, Beat novels, history related non-fiction, film criticism textbooks, etc.
(2) Last book bought:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
(3) Last book I read:
I guess it's the same as the last question. How about the last magazine I read? Premiere.
(4) Five books that mean a lot to me:
This is a good one. I used to read quite a bit.
- The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac
- Demian by Herman Hesse
- Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut
- The Peculiar Memories of Thomas Penman by Bruce Robinson
- Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters by JD Salinger

So now, the rules of this tag, according to Strider:
I've got to answer the four questions, then tag five other fellow bloggers. If I tag you, copy the questions from here, then post the questions along with your answers on your own blog. I've done my part. Now you do yours. Here's the list of the folks I chose to tag.

Sarah
Desult
Thao
Faolan
Poppy

  1. Thanks for f’n tagging me…lol

  2. Can we tag back?

  3. You will rue the day, JJ. RUE!

  4. whoohooo… score… no chain blogging for me!!! *does dance*

  5. I know, Desult. It’s kind of a pain in the ass. But just think, I chose you to pick on. I only pick on people I like. No tag backs.

I’m always ruing, Faolan. I’m the king of ruing. *shakes fist at the sky* Nooooo!…. See?

You lucked out, Trav… this time! mwahahahaa!

  6. Sorry, haven’t been feeling well so haven’t been reading my regular blogs. I’m going to cheat and say that I already did this meme :)

  7. Also, to add to my answers above, “anything Kurt Vonnegut” is included in my favorites.

  8. I’m just going to keep leaving comments, aren’t I. Hmm. Since I started blogging I haven’t read one whole book. It’s terrible. I’m trying to read The Bitch Posse by Martha O’Connor (recognize the name from her blog?) but blogging did encourage me to subscribe to Maxim, which I do read regularly, most of the way through even!

  9. Silly JJ, I’m only kidding. I don’t mind that you tagged me because I like you so whatever.

After I posted my second post, I received an error message. It told me I couldn’t post in no less than 15 seconds after the first, plus it told me to “slow down, cowboy.”

  10. Looks like you’re in the clear, Poppy. Well done.

I’m a huge fan of Vonnegut. I once saw him give a speech about “family values” while I was in college. Kind of ironic, huh?

Keep on commenting, Poppy, I love it.

Yeah, Desult. That warning message is hilarious. It was part of the WordPress default.

  11. Alright, mine is up. Punk.

  12. jack kerouac = great stuff!
kurt vonnegut = more great stuff
JD Salinger = even more great stuff.

nice picks JJ. sorry for the tag. it was my first tag ever so i felt bad breaking it.

  13. Well done, Faolan.

    Me too, Strider.

  14. You like me, you really like me!
Done, but compared to everyone else’s response, my answers aren’t smart and thought provoking books. Sigh.

  15. Of course we like you, Thao.
