Live8 Fashion Faux Pas
But I'm not going to go into details. That's what places like PhillyFuture are for.
What I will say:
- There were a lot of sweaty people there, and most of them smelled like foot and ass.
- Very few of the people I talked to understood the point of Live 8. Most just cared about seeing Jay-Z or maybe they were hoping to catch an up-skirt glimpse of Beyonce's cooch.
- MTV's coverage sucked nuts.
- When the weather warms up, people forget to dress like human beings.
Here are a few examples of that last point (I'll also be submitting these to Inappropriately Dressed):

chuckle! and a smirk
Top of the day to you gov’nar!
July 4th, 2005 - 16:08
did you get to see waters with PF? oh man oh man when I heard that, I literally had a intestinal malfunction.
July 4th, 2005 - 17:54
And to you too, Mulk. That Pink Floyd reunion was in London, where they had the best lineup.
I was really only interested in a couple of the acts in Philly – namely Stevie Wonder and Jay-Z. They both rocked.

JJ – I am right jealous, though I agree London was the primo ticket. I tivo’d it and Strider & I watched it and the highlights off & on Sat (he & his family came down for the weekend). I liked how Sting changed up his lyrics to “Everything you do, we’ll be watching you”. And Strider actually caught this one; Madonna said “Are you ready to change history?!” — actually, history is the one thing you can’t change. Duh!
BTW, have your eyes recovered yet from the blinding fashion atrocities?
July 5th, 2005 - 07:28
Yes, Sar. I recovered my sight later that evening.

I absolutely love this post! Dallas also has really bad fashion. For example, the woman at the airport with the American flag cowboy hat and the spangled cowboy boots.
July 5th, 2005 - 15:31
You are SO RIGHT, JJ.. MTV’s coverage was the worst thing EVER!! I almost threw the remote at the tv screen when they interrupted Bon Jovi about 45 seconds into “Livin on a Prayer” to go to COMMERCIAL!!!!!
Seriously – my husband had to restrain me!
I’m glad you had a good time.. and I truly enjoy the pictures. However.. I am curious as to what you wore! Tell me you wore shorts! You need to post a picture of your legs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them!!!
July 5th, 2005 - 15:40
Are we sure that first woman isn’t really just a giant white turtle?
I need more evidence.
Did anyone see her eating fish during the day?
Did she make any references to her sensei, Splinter?
Was she ever seen a few paces in front of, say, a racing hare?
July 5th, 2005 - 16:51
you need to post that picture that ck1 took…..
July 5th, 2005 - 17:11
I think Live8 was a bunch of bullshit. The goal was to raise “awareness” not money.
Newsflash: We’re pretty aware that there’s poverty in Africa.
All the assholes[except U2] who were using the show because they’re a bunch of media whores, could’ve used the money they’ve “earned” to feed some skinny Africans.
July 5th, 2005 - 17:53
i love the fact that you go to this big high falutin’ concert thing… and you take pics of badly dressed people. fuggin wikked. i have a camera ready at almost all times for the same reason… [its called the "ugly cam"]
July 5th, 2005 - 18:46
COOL! I saw some of the Philly footage but mostly they focused on Hyde Park. Did you see any of the London concert?
July 5th, 2005 - 20:18
MY EYES! THEY JUST BURNED OUT OF MY HEAD. JJ, I can’t believe you didn’t post a more serious warning about the Live8 outfits…
July 5th, 2005 - 21:22
Eddie, that outfit sounds awesome. “America! Fuck Yeah!”
Chopping a Bon Jovi masterpiece, LC? Sacrilege! My legs may be too sexy for this crowd. I don’t want anyone to faint.
Actually Maine, I did catch her eating a slice of pizza with peanut butter an marshmallows on it.
I don’t think she sent it to me, J.Mo.
You may be right, Mimi. I think for the most part, people in Philly didn’t give a shit about Africa. I can say that the people who gave a shit were pretty passionate about their cause.
Yeah, I’m kind of an ass, Juicya.
I missed most of the London Stuff, MM. But they did show a bit of it on the big screens at the Philly show. I will say that the Pink Floyd reunion was a huge letdown. I forgot how boring their music can be when you’re not baked.
I’ll try to warn you next time, Poppy.

I think it all started at theme parks. For some reason people think it’s okay to dress inappropriately at theme parks. I know it’s hot; I live in Florida. But the whole bikini top and yam shorts is UNACCEPTABLE (especially for those body types who usually choose to wear them).
I hearken back to JJ’s posting on thongs in the grocery store.
It comes down to man’s inhumanity toward man.
July 6th, 2005 - 09:27
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the humanity!
July 6th, 2005 - 14:00
I wish I had a rubber suit…
July 6th, 2005 - 17:10
Marc, Jen, these people are just cruel. They’re trying to hurt everyone else’s eyes.
Don’t deny it, G. That was you in that rubber suit!
July 9th, 2005 - 13:28
vh1 replayed most of the concerts today sans the annoying, ignorant veejays going “poverty… hunger… wow… it’s like bad… and stuff… now here’s john norris with an extremely dumb-down piece on what this is all about… yeah, we know you’ve seen it ten times before now, but we can’t actually show you music… i mean, we wouldn’t want to break a great streak we are on…” john norris: “no, the g8 isn’t that drink that will keep your diet straight, but they might help the diet of millions of starving africans… no, that’s african-americans… africa is a continent… what do you mean ‘what’s a continent?’ argh… do i have to explain everything? damn it, where’s kurt loder when you need him?”
July 14th, 2005 - 09:41
Yes, Trav. They are indeed idiots. Thankfully, they replayed the actual performances this time.
