Do Not Look at This Picture

Watching college football this past weekend, I saw one of the worst sports related injuries I've ever seen. It was during the Florida/Alabama game. The Tide's Tyrone Prothro jumped up to grab a catch in the endzone and landed awkwardly on his left leg. His lower leg snapped like a twig, bending more than 90 degrees.

Dude was a champ after it happened. As he was carted off the field and ultimately to the hospital, Prothro pumped his fist in victory toward the crowd without a hint of pain on his face. I'm a true Gator fan, but I have complete respect for this guy.

Click here if you want to see a picture of the injury, but seriously I warned you.

  1. God, I thought it was going to be a f’ed up knee injury with the knee being blown out from the side. This just might be worse. Let me tell you, JJ, nothing on this planet makes me ill, not blood, not guts, not even necrotizing fasciitis, with the exception of sport induced joint injuries. That picture gave me shivers…ughh.

  2. Oh man!

    That is brutal.

It’s like the Joe Theisman injury but worse!

  3. Now that’s gotta hurt!

  4. Now that’s what I call a “rubber-leg play!”

  5. Jimmy called me on the phone as soon as this happened. Guess he needed to share the details of this disturbing injury. Told him he should call you, since you were probably watching the game. As for me, I was at work. Bleh.

  6. I can’t stomach stuff like that so I didn’t look. Thanks for the warning.

  7. I seriously cannot look at stuff like that. The last time I saw a footballer break his leg I nearly threw up. I’m so sqeemish.

  8. That’s a bad one all right.

For those old enough to remember, there was a lineman who played for the Bengals back during one of their appearances in the Super Bowl (don’t laugh, they made it twice) in the late 80s. His lower leg broke exactly like this one except halfway between the knee and ankle. He rode out of the stadium insisting that he wanted to stay on the sidelines to watch the rest of the game.

Although the doctors said he might never even walk again, he actually came back and played the next year. Damndest thing I ever saw. Certainly more fortitude than I can weasel out of my lazy ass.

  9. I’m hoping this guy can make a comeback sometime in the next couple of years. He’s got huge potential.

  10. I can’t look. Those kinds of shots always eeb me out.

I also couldn’t look at the hammering the Gators took this weekend. What’s up with that?

  11. I’m with Desult on this one… by far the type of injury that makes me the most squeamish.

  12. Mon dieu, that was horrible. Thanks, JJ. :)

  13. I took your advice and passed.

  14. prothro kicked ass. i still hope that he is going to be a kick ass as a pro(professional). yep, i called jmo right after i saw this. it disturbed me enough to want to talk about it after i saw it.

  15. ROLL TIDE ! hope prothro makes a full recovery and comes back next year.

  16. OMG that picture made me throw up when i saw it…it looks fake like ome of those rubber dolls u can play with. That is so wierd!!!
    *~*Lauren*~*

  17. Was the pass complete? Shame to waste a season on an incompletion.

  18. I had to cover my mouth look away and say “AAAAAWWWWW”
My “8″ year old son said ” I’m glad that ain’t me,but I feel sorry for him and I hope he get’s better. My Dad said he’s seen that twice. Theisman and Prothro. Theisman never came back…
    HOPE PROTHRO DOES!!

  19. That’s gross, man. That’s just gross.

  20. Man dats some bad crap

  21. Dang son, that junk look like my collar bone when i broke it…ewwwwwwwww *GOSH*

  22. tyrone prothro is never goin 2 play football again…i was watching the game when it happened.when it happened i felt a sharp pain in my leg
