The Churning just reached fifty thousand hits. That’s not a lot really. Fark gets like two million a day. But I still see it as an accomplishment. Plus, every month we get more hits than the month before.

I figured this would be a good time to recap for the new readers:

  • Feb 2, 2005: The Churning launched on Blogger, starting with a string of posts about Astronomy, Current Events, and Buddhist philosophy. Boooorrriiiing.
Note: Some other chump has since taken my old Blogspot address. And the 50,000 hit thing does not include my time over at Blogger.
  • March 9, 2005: My Lady and I moved from Richmond to Philly. Life in Philly became a frequent topic here.
  • April 21, 2005: I joined the QW! Those guys are my real-life friends, not just my internet friends. I was in a band with Barnd (actually Maine was in the band for a couple of weeks too), and I used to work with Ev. These are the guys who got me into this whole blogging thing in the first place.
  • April 25, 2005: I linked a post to Citynoise and they linked back. I became a somewhat active contributor over there and started receiving a bunch of hits out of it.
  • April 29, 2005: AofG linked to one of my posts, sending a slew of new readers our way.
  • May 6, 2005: I bought a domain through GoDaddy and became thechurning.com. I also decided to make the content more personal and/or funny.
Note: This is when we began to count visitors.
  • May 21, 2005: We were named Cruel Site of the Day and received several thousand hits out of it. This is this post Cruel linked to.
  • June 18, 2005: Ev started sending in submissions, adding a whole new element of dementia.
  • July 22, 2005: Jimmy, J.Mo and Jillian became official contributors along with Ev. Now we’re a team. A team of sex obsessed potty-mouths who laugh at childish jokes.
  • December 15, 2005: Our 50,000th visitor read a post/vomited on the keyboard/wrote us nasty e-mail/was so bored they fell asleep/posted a link to us on some message board/added me to their Myspace list/whatever.

I know there’s a long gap between July and December, but I assure you it’s been busy around here. We linked up with a bunch of other writers/readers via BotB, we started handing out stickers, and I’ve guest-posted elsewhere. Thanks for reading. Keep it up.
