And a last line

@MacBros : meta tags and description are not considered anymore by SEs. They actually were one of the first things SEs ditched because of spammy nature.
If you want to create great metas, use a) a valid template and b) microformats (read the seo-for-dummies tag link in my first entry. Much better as metas. Google will analyse itself what keywords have higher relevance.
And no, before ou might think it, keywords don't influence your ranking in SERPs. Unless you use them smartly, ie in the title (h1, h2 for entry title, h3 for sub areas in a post, aso) and in the post slug. Basically your keywords should be integrated in the post title and the url for that entry.

Keyword optimization, if existing should be around 5%-8%, certainly not more because the algorithm might flag you and actually rank you lower. And then again those 5-8% rather seem to serve Adsense purposes than rankings. Keywords are passe. Period.
But if you'd really insist on using them, make a tag out of them. In that way you'd create a new url for that keyword and GOOG loves that. ;-)

Where's the booze actually?

Actually just hunting for links doesn't do it anymore today. A good ranking (PR surely isn't everything anymore) is not only depending of your PR. But the single most important thing has become trust rank (TR).

They (and I) will charge 2 arms and at least one leg to advice you how to build a great trust rank, but there are simple ways that work. So here's some free advice. :P
(general advice as well for being a -blog- band)

1. You're a band, you MUST blog. Blog about gigs you had, upcoming gigs and just the band life. Link in your entries to other bands you play with aso.
2. It is easier to build a band fan club on a blog than on your blog here. Other bands might be more tempted to comment and link back as well.
3. Use a photo (extension) for your blog. Flickr, or gallery even, they can easily be added to a WP blog.
4. Try as much as possible to link out to related pages with at least PR5, hell even link to Wikipedia.
An inconvenience you have is that many venues also have a low PR, but rel="nofollow" would damage the purpose of blogging and link love in the case of the codes. This meaning that it will be harder to build a good TR very fast, but it is an avalanche effect that can be obtained on a mid-long term.
5. Create a member page (and why not even upload some songs) at last.fm. You can participate in the community (surely more geeky and less mainstream than myspace) but for a start lets just say you'll use this platform for PR purposes.
6. Get a MyBlogLog profile and a Flickr page for the codes.Even get a twitter account.
Purpose : those are great platforms, easy to use to promote yourself and above all they don't use rel="nofollow" so the link love strategy works. Better even... they have a good PR.
7. If you want to get free link bait/incoming links from highly ranked directories, read this entry (too lazy to type it out here).
8. You can find more SEO for dummies at AIFN as I find time to publish. Otherwise, feel free to drop me an email. (No not promoting a paid service here) ;-)

trouble:
All this talk about boobies is making my hungry.

Mr. Fabulous:
Perfect! At least it's all true.

Diane:
I love it! Your positive karma must be through the roof.

Cecil B.:
Hell yeah! Thanks, dude. My favorite part: "The Codes mother fucker, get on it." Genius.

MacBros:
Suddenly I have a new fondness for Canada.

Ev:
That would work I suppose, but does that mean I have to review The Churning?

[...] Oh wait, I do! Well sort of. One of them anyway. No I’m not talking about serial codes, or registration codes or codes of conduct etc. I’m talking about JJ’s band. You know JJ? Runs The Churning with a few of his best friends? Resides in Philly? Take a cruise on over there and read his latest post. He’s willing to swap a blog review for just a mention of his band (with link to the band site) in one of your posts. He’s trying to raise his Google page rank for the band site so he’s offering the review in trade for linkage. Sounds like a good deal to me but I’d have posted without any promise of compensation because The Churning Rocks! I imagine The Codes do too and I can’t wait until they get big enough to tour all over the country and play a date in Houston. I’ll be expecting back stage passes JJ!
