Jury duty is fun

Last time I was summoned to jury duty, I wanted to do whatever I could to get out of it. Nowadays things are super fucking stressful at work, so I'm actually looking forward to a relaxing day chilling at the courthouse.

I've got the Pahlaniuk book Rant to finish and I'm a couple issues behind with Sports Illustrated. I'm thinking tomorrow will be pretty laid back. If all goes well, I'll waste my day waiting and waiting - then I'll get to go home and be done with it. Worst case scenario, I'll get picked for some bullshit trial that lasts several days (or longer). I'll cross my fingers. Wish me luck.

  1. I just got my first jury summons. Not sure what to think about it because I’m always hearing horror stories.

  2. Well today sucked. I sat around from 8 until 4:30 on a hard wooden bench waiting and waiting. At the end of the day, they didn’t select me (which is very very good news). I stumbled out with my numb legs and ass. At least I got a lot of reading done.

  3. do they let you break for lunch? Are you allowed to drink water? Can you go to the bathroom?

  4. You can take piss breaks whenever you need to. But in Philly, smoke breaks are out. It would take too long to get to the first floor, exit the building, smoke, then make it back up to the courtroom. Pissing is all good.

There was a lunch break too. Arbitrarily lasted 1 hour 20 mins. They let us out at 12:40 and said “be back by 2″.

While you wait – before you get to a real courtroom, you can eat and drink whatever you can find in the vending machines. Small bags of chips and cans of soda. There are also water fountains. But bringing outside shit is kind of frowned upon. I suppose because it could be a bomb or something.
